THE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF KRIMI MOVIES I
Edgar Wallace, Dr. Mabuse. Who doesn't know these big names in German crime films? What's less well known, however, is that these films never stood alone. They weren't isolated gems simply pushed to the public. From 1958 to 1964, well over 100 films were produced in Germany (East and West), Denmark, Austria, Switzerland, and even Belgium, all representing different attempts to create a distinct, "German" crime genre.
154 MOVIES WATCHED AND REVIEWED
Here, for the first time, all these films are examined, evaluated, and discussed. Their production histories are explored, as are the successes and failures of each film. Furthermore, company histories are recounted, the Berlin Wall is built, and the paranoia of the Cold War descends upon East and West. All of this is reflected in the films.
FIVE TRUE CRIME CASES EXAMINED
It is virtually unknown that the German Krimis mostly did try to incorporate current sensationalist true-crime cases. Sometimes openly (THE GIRL ROSEMARY), sometimes more veiled (ZIMMER 13). We examine the five news-breaking sensationalist crime cases that had a huge impact on the development of the genre.
POLITICAL, SOCIAL AND TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENTS FOR EACH YEAR
All developments that had an impact on making KRIMI movies are examined as well, with a chapter at the beginning of each year, explaining legislation, politics, funding and social developments.
